I had no idea what to expect with Digital Photography. My friends told me they heard this class was a lot of work. I was pretty scared about that since the swim season was starting as well. I made a decision before school that I should at least try it out and see what I thought of it. After the first week I started to get into the groove of things and was enjoying the class more than I thought I would. During the composition unit I had a ton of fun learning about the camera and it's features. One thing that I noticed in my pictures was that I was taking really dark pictures. Here are some examples... At the time I thought these pictures were good. I didn't see a problem with dark pictures. A few weeks later we started our shutter speed and aperture unit, that was when I realized I should learn how to alter the settings so I could start taking brighter pictures. After practice, I finally figured it out, here are some examples... I liked being able to express myself through my pictures. My favorite thing is bringing lots of colors into pictures. I really demonstrated this in my third photo assignment, which was nature. I took lots of pictures of flowers, trees, grass and pumpkins. This was my favorite photo assignment and I had a ton of fun. Here are some of my favorite pictures from this assignment.

In this assignment we had to take pictures and turn them into visual puns. We also had to pick a word a describe it using different pictures. Here are the 3 puns and 2 dictionary pictures I made. PUNS: DICTIONARY: In this assignment I used a lot of the magic wand to select what I wanted from each picture. I really liked that we got to pick which puns and words we wanted to do without instructions telling us how to do so.
For this assignment, I chose to take pictures that demonstrated motion. I mainly took pictures of my sister with a hula hoop and my dog. I wanted to demonstrate freeze motion and make things that were moving look still. Here is my best picture with 5 runner-ups. ISO: 250 Aperture: f/3.4 Shutter Speed: 1/1000 I had a pretty hard time with this assignment, I couldn't seem to get my sister AND the hula hoop completely frozen. I used a fast shutter speed, but since it was still pretty bright out I couldn't go much higher. Other than that it was pretty fun, and my sister had a good time as well.
For this assignment, we had to take portrait pictures of someone. We had to take a few with a bounce card and then take a few in the studio. In my non-studio shot I took them in the stairwell which has lots of bright, natural light. Here are the pictures seprate and together In this assignment I learned how to really take a portrait style photo. You have to have a Large aperture, and a shutter speed that is appropriate with the lighting. I learned how to put a white border around my photos as well. This assignment went really well and there was few difficult aspects to it.
For this assignment I had to take lots of pictures that I could put in Black and White. I took around 50 pictures and chose my best one followed by my next best 6. ISO: 200 Aperture: f/5.0 Shutter Speed: 1/80 In this assignment I desaturated my photos and cropped them. One thing that was hard for me was the wind outside. It was difficult to take pictures of anything because the wind made everything move.
In this assignment we could find any photoshop tutorial that we wanted to do. I really wanted to do something involving an eye. Here are the before and after pictures for each one I did. In this assignment I learned how to change the blending mode for the picture. Something that was hard for me was the Saturn rings were very skinny on it's original picture so it was hard to erase the extra parts. I also only had a day and a half to complete these since I missed a few days of school, that's why I could only complete 1 other picture than dash of color and polaroid.
In this assignment I took pictures of food that I thought looked yummy. I took about 50 pictures of my dinner one night. Here is my best one followed by my next best 5. Aperture: f/3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/20 ISO: 500 **NO EDITING** In this assignment I had to use angles and how close I was to the subject to get a good picture. Something that was hard for me during this assignment was the lighting. The kitchen light is pretty dull.
In this assignment we had to take a few pictures of the same person in the same scene. We had to layer them over top one another, this made the person in the other picture show through. These are the 2 pictures I edited for this assignment. in this assignment I learned how to stack photos on top of each other. I also learned how to use the lasso tool. Next time I would space out my subject each time so that I don't get confused when photoshopping it.
For this assignment we had to take 50 pictures of a chosen category. We had to pick the best and follow it up with the next best 5. The category I chose was Animal. I took pictures of my cat Sampson. Aperture: f/3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/60 ISO: 400 **NO EDITING WAS DONE** Something that went well for this assignment was Sampson was very tired and grumpy, which allowed me to capture those emotions in my photographs. Something that was difficult for me was how much he moved around.
In this assignment we had to take a picture of some part of our school. We had to photoshop different pictures into the photo, changing the original to look very different. I used a picture of windows that lead into the natatorium. Original Edited
